Prolog im ländlichen Südspanien: Die noch jugendliche Antonia ist schwanger. Nachdem sie ihre Tochter Carmen zur Welt bringt, fasst Antonia einen Entschluss – sie geht. Allein. Und wird nicht mehr wiederkommen. Ein halbes Jahrhundert später arbeitet Carmen als Werbecasterin im Großraum Barcelona und soll sich für eine politische Kampagne auf die Suche nach dem idealen „gewöhnlichen“ Gesicht machen. Wen sie finden wird, versteht sich von selbst, doch Laura Ferrés gestaltet die Begegnung von Tochter und Mutter nicht etwa als rührseliges Drama, sondern als rätselhafte Tragikomödie voll von schrägem Humor und verspielten Verschränkungen von Bild und Bedeutung. In a rural town in Andalucía, a teenager gives birth and runs away, leaving everything behind. Decades later, in the outskirts of Barcelona, Carmen, a casting director must go in search of “authentic” people for an electoral campaign, migrants willing to tell the stories.
