Stranger in Paradise
Ein Lehrer versucht, einer Gruppe von Flüchtlingen Mathematik beizubringen. Nicht derentwillen, sondern lediglich, um ihnen vor Augen führen zu können, was Flüchtlinge der Gesellschaft eigentlich kosten. Die Asylsuchenden widersprechen. Sie wollen arbeiten, einen Beitrag leisten. Doch der Lehrer macht ihre Illusionen zunichte. Changierend zwischen Spiel- und Dokumentarfilm reflektiert Stranger in Paradise in drei Akten über herrschende Kräfteverhältnisse. Ein politischer Essay über das Zerbersten von Träumen am harten Boden der Realität, über ein Dilemma, in dem es die eigene Position zu hinterfragen gilt.
"We don’t want you. We just can’t do it." In a classroom, a teacher uses math to explain to a group of refugees what their arrival will cost society. The asylum seekers try to refute the figures. They will work, won’t they, and contribute to society? The teacher shatters their illusions: half of them will never find work. In three acts, director and screenwriter Guido Hendrikx explains the European view of the refugee crisis. The man receives three groups of migrants, each time adopting a different attitude. Regie Biografie
GUIDO HENDRIKX, born in 1987, is a Dutch documentary filmmaker. He studied at the University of Utrecht and worked as a freelance journalist.
