Wenig ist bekannt über die Tragödie der Roma und Sinti während und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Zu Tausenden wurden sie umgebracht. Am Straßenrand, in Konzentrationslagern, nebst Massengräbern. Per Maschinengewehr, Hammer oder Gas. Denn selbst für die Siegermächte waren die Roma Opfer zweiter Klasse. In sieben europäischen Ländern tritt der Regisseur Robert Kirchhoff dieser Gegenwart des Vergessens mit den Erinnerungen der letzten Überlebenden entgegen. Eine dokumentarische Elegie in teils ausgearbeiteten Dialogen und inszenierten Sequenzen. Europa und die Roma – eine Spurensuche voller Trauer und absurder Komik. (DOK Leipzig)
Everyone knows about the Roma holocaust, but no one talks about it. The process of eliminating memories of it began more or less at the end of the Second World War, when many mass graves in work and detention camps remained intact. Even for the winners, the Roma were second-class victims. In a number of European countries […], the director confronts a forgetful present with memories of the last surviving witnesses of these horrific events. ROBERT KIRCHHOFF, born in 1968, is a Slovakian independent director, producer, and the founder of the atelier.doc production company. His work focuses primarily on current social topics and on the issue of coming to terms with historical heritage in Central Europe.
