Cristiana, 30, kommt aus einer gutbürgerlichen Familie in Bukarest. Sie wohnt zu Hause, schreibt an ihrer Dissertation. Als ihre Eltern jedoch aus der Familienwohnung ausziehen, beginnt ein neuer Abschnitt in ihrem Leben – einer, in dem sie ihr Pflichtbewusstsein ablegt. Endlich kann – muss – sie gewissermaßen machen, was sie schon immer tun wollte: einen Hund besitzen, einen verheirateten Mann daten oder in der Wohnung rauchen. SELF-PORTRAIT OF A DUTIFUL DAUGHTER ist eine intime Coming-of-Age-Geschichte über das Erobern neuen (Frei-) Raumes. Lungu vermengt Fakt und Fiktion, greift auf Laiendarstellerinnen und -darsteller zurück. Nebst einem authentischen Rahmenwerk legt sie so auch eine Reminiszenz an eigene Erfahrungen dar.
Cristiana is a 30-year-old woman, brought up in a “proper”, bourgeois middle-class family. Her time is split between writing for her PhD in Earthquake Engineering, conversations with Alex and Michelle, her two close friends and occasional, but eagerly awaited rendezvous with Dan, a married man with whom she is romantically involved. After her parents move out of the family apartment, she decides to get a dog. It is something that she has wanted ever since she was a child. Now that she lives on her own, she can finally fulfill this wish.
Director's Biography
Ana Lungu was born in 1978 in Bucharest, Romania. She studied Psychology and Film Directing and has worked as script supervisor and assistant director. She co-directed THE BELLY OF THE WHALE (with Ana Szel), which was selected for competition at the Festival del Film Locarno and Vancouver International Film Festival.
