The Reaper
In KOSAC beleuchten drei schicksalhafte Begnungen innerhalb einer einzigen Nacht den Charakter Ivo aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln. Jurićs vielgestaltige Erzählung zeichnet ein bruchstückartiges, flüchtiges Bild und fordert unser Moralverständnis immer wieder aufs Neue heraus. Dabei wirkt Ivo, der für die Vergewaltigung einer Frau eingesessen hatte, ebenso fest in seiner Vergangenheit verwurzelt wie das umliegende ländliche Kroatien, das irgendwie im Krieg steckengeblieben scheint.
THE REAPER begins with Ivo, a quiet laborer in an agro-industrial conglomerate, coming to the aid of a woman whose car has run out of gas on a dark, deserted road. Though he appears in the guise of a savior, the truth is that Ivo is anything but a hero: he did time in prison for raping a woman many years ago. These days, he is quiet and withdrawn, struggling with his demons and with the ugly past that his fellow villagers refuse to let him forget. The seemingly benign roadside meeting is just the beginning of Ivo's long night, which THE REAPER recounts in three seperate stories. (Dimitri Eipides, Toronto International Film Festival)
Director's Biography
Zvonimir Jurić was born in Osijek, Croatia in 1971. He studied at the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art. His directorial credits include contributions to the anthology films SEX, DRINK AND BLOODSHED and ZAGREB STORIES, the features THE ONE WHO WILL STAY UNNOTICED and THE BLACKS, which was co-directed by Goran Dević and won the Crossing Europe Award European Competition in 2010.
