Vor Jesses Augen wird in einer menschenleeren Einkaufspassage sein bester Freund Jonas erstochen. Wie gelähmt beobachtet der 15-Jährige die Szene. Die jugendlichen Täter flüchten, ihre Motive bleiben ungeklärt. Für Jesse beginnt eine Zeit erschreckender Einsamkeit. Allein mit seinem Schmerz und vermutlich auch mit seinen Schuldgefühlen, findet er keine Sprache, sich seinen Eltern oder den anderen Jungen aus seiner BMX-Clique mitzuteilen. Diese reagieren hilflos oder abweisend, weil sie ihm Feigheit unterstellen. In ihrer gepflegten Vorortsiedlung herrscht ein monströses Schweigen. Das Unfassbare bleibt unfassbar, und die Jungs drehen weiter ihre Loops, als wäre nichts geschehen.
A group of young BMX riders are confronted with the unexpected and violent death of Jonas, one of their friends. Being the only one to have witnessed the incident, they all look at 15-year-old Jesse for answers. His companions’ looks and his inability to answer their questions gradually isolate Jesse. The grief for the loss of his best friend and the growing feeling of loneliness stand in the way of Jesse’s search for comfort. Violet is a visual account of a teenager’s mourning process.
Regie Biografie
Bas Devos, born 1983 in Zoersel, Belgium, studied at Sint-Lukas Brussels University College of Art and Design. He has made several short films besides working in theater as a director and lighting designer. VIOLET is his first feature-length film.
