Im Herbst 2006, rechtzeitig zum Wahlkampf, schlugen die Aktivisten „Les Enfants de Don Quichotte“ rund um Augustin Legrand hunderte Zelte entlang des St. Martin Kanals im Herzen von Paris auf: Indem die Bevölkerung eingeladen wurde, eine Nacht mit den Unterstandslosen zu verbringen, sollte die von Legrand und Pascal Ournaklouf ausgehende Initiative auf die menschenunwürdigen Lebensumstände der Obdachlosen in Paris aufmerksam machen. Dank der Hartnäckigkeit und des Engagements der Gruppe wurde das Ziel der Aktion, nämlich die Politiker zum Handeln aufzufordern, auch erreicht: Ségolène Royal, Chirac und Sarkozy reagierten tatsächlich.
Homelessness has almost become an acceptable part of modern society. But that‘s a lie, at least according to Augustin Legrand and his activist group ‚Les Enfants de Don Quichotte‘, when in the autumn of 2006 they set up hundreds of tents in the streets of Paris, and got the residents of the city to come out and live together with the homeless for a November night. Even if this unconventional form of activism was at first met by rough gendarmes in combat gear, Legrand & co gradually managed to get through to the top of the French system. The result was both political change and a powerful and captivating film, which is both a combat call and a role model for activists of all kinds.
