Wem wird die titelgebende weißrussische Lektion erteilt? Uns, die wir hier im Westen selten Notiz nehmen von einer real existierenden Diktatur im Herzen Europas? Oder Präsident Lukaschenko und den Handlangern seiner Machtsicherung? – Ein mutiger und trotzdem besonnener Aufbruchschrei junger Aktivistinnen und Aktivisten, der vor dem Hintergrund der erstickten Stimmen ihrer Eltern und Großeltern um so lauter hörbar wird. Ein Film, der Wut und Ohnmacht erzeugt und unsere eigenen politischen Minimaleinsätze als beinahe lächerliches Kalkül erscheinen lässt. Wir werden Zeugen unterschiedlicher Formen zivilen Ungehorsams, und niemand wird später sagen können, wir hätten es nicht gewusst. (Barbara Wurm)

Franek Viacorka introduces himself in voice-over, accompanied by black-and-white images. He was born in Belarus in 1988, three years before the Soviet Union collapsed. In 2004 the anti-nationalist and dictatorial Aleksandr Lukashenko took the helm of the country. Franek‘s father established a nationalist lyceum that was forced shut in 2001, an event that was captured on film. Next, the picture turns to colour and it is 2006. Franek is now a political activist. He and his friends film all their acts of resistance, which are incorporated in the fast-paced montage of the documentary. The young activists‘ enthusiasm gives the documentary a hopeful, sometimes even cheerful air, but always against the background of impending arrests.
