Via Castellana Bandiera

A Street in Palermo

Rosa and Clara, two women on their way to a friend’s wedding in Palermo, get lost among the city streets and end up in the Via Castellana Bandiera. At the same moment, another car driven by Samira, in which the Calafiore family is gathered, arrives and enters the same street in the opposite direction. While Clara decides to leave the car to continue her discovery of Palermo and, with the complicity of the local inhabitants, the Calafiore family starts taking bets on which of the two women will stick to her ground the longest, neither Rosa nor Samira intend to give way to each other. Night comes, but the two women, resisting hunger, sleep and thirst, seem to be obeying a stubbornness holding no more rationality and persist in not yielding way to the other …

Director's Biography
Emma Dante, born 1967 in Palermo, Italy, graduated from Rome’s National Academy of Dramatic Art Silvio D’Amico in 1990. After founding her own theater company in 1999 she became a multi-award-winning theater director. Emma Dante is also working in the fields of opera, exhibition design and literature and as an actress in theater, cinema and television. VIA CASTELLANA BANDIERA (A Street in Palermo, 2013), which is based on her prize-winning, same-titled first novel from 2009, is her debut feature film and premiered at the 70th Venice International Film Festival in 2013.
