Beyond the Hill
After his retirement from the state forestry office, Faik moved back
to his hometown and started to work the land he inherited from his grandfather. A sharecropper family takes care of his lands
and his flock of goats. His son and his two grandsons arrive on a hot summer day for vacation. They come at a time when Faik’s
conflict with the neighboring nomads is escalating. The gathering provokes both the unsettled family disputes and the family
members’ conflicts with the sharecropper family. However, for Faik the major threat to his community and land is the nomads.
“Masterfully evoking tension through isolation, landscape, and unspoken conflict, Alper conveys that what lies beyond the
hill may be far less damaging than what is within your walls.” (Ashley Havey, Tribeca Film Festival)
