Pitkin tietä pieni lapsi

Two groups of children, one group from Finland, the other from Somalia, spend their free time together building a little hut in a forest at the edge of Helsinki. The camera virtually breathes down their necks, constantly moving as though it were afraid to miss the slightest detail. In between: grass, branches, blossoms. A study of a microcosm and how boundaries lose their validity. Little arguments about God and Allah are forgotten in the next moment, when the question is who will drag the bigger boxes into the forest. As in all of Helke and Suutari‘s works, it is not the theme that defines the film here, but how time can be experienced: what is important is grasping the moments of truth – moments that accompany us throughout our whole lives.
