Empire St. Pauli - von Perlenketten und Platzverweisen
Gentrification up close. By example of St. Pauli, the film studies the changes within a city quarter and the creeping eviction of its old inhabitants. The film gives many authentic citizens of St. Pauli the opportunity to speak their thoughts, constituting a multi-faceted spectrum of opinions beyond the red-light district, petty thieves and stereotype poverty.
Director's Biography
Irene Bude, geb. 1965 in Meißen, hat sich nach der Übersiedelung aus der DDR intensiv mit ihrer neuen Heimat Hamburg auseinandergesetzt. Studierte Sozialpädagogik, dreht seit 1997 preisgekrönte Filme und ist Mitglied im Aktionsnetzwerk gegen Gentrification. Olaf Sobczak studierte Sozialpädagogik und absolvierte anschließend ein Filmstudium an der HfbK Hamburg. Seit 1999 dreht er Filme, viele in Zusammenarbeit mit Irene Bude, und nahm an zahlreichen internationalen Filmfestivals teil.
