Paper Soldier
Kazakhstan, early 1961. Daniel Pokrovsky, a medical officer, works for the first Soviet cosmonaut troop. Already married, Daniel finds himself in an incredibly complicated yet tender relationship with a young girl called Vera. He is in charge of the health of the future cosmonauts and can’t agree with the fact that these young men could have to sacrifice their lives for the country. His wife Nina feels the same: she doesn’t accept him participating in a project that could put human lives at risk, therefore she keeps asking Daniel to leave his job.
Director's Biography
Alexey German Jr., geboren 1976 in Moskau. Studium an der Filmhochschule Moskau VGIK. Danach realisierte er Kurzfilme, für die er internationale Preise gewann. Posledny poezd (2003) war sein Langfilm-Debüt und lief bei den Filmfestspielen in Venedig, ebenso sein zweiter und dritter Spielfilm Garpastum (2005) und Paper Soldier (2008).
