Maïté ist mit Vincent verheiratet, der eine siebenjährige Gefängnisstrafe absitzt. Ihre Beziehung beschränkt sich auf zwei kurze Begegnungen pro Woche, in der Besuchszelle des Gefängnisses – dem einzigen Ort, an dem die beiden so etwas wie eine neue Intimität aufbauen können, die naturgemäß von den gewohnten Normen abweicht. Für die junge Frau bedeuten diese Treffen, einem strengen Ritual aus wiederholten Gesten zu folgen, selbst gefangen zwischen fortgesetzten Illusionen und enttäuschten Hoffnungen. Bei einem ihrer Besuche trifft sie den Gefängnisaufseher Jean, der ihr neuer Liebhaber wird und gleichzeitig mit ihrem Mann Vincent ein Abkommen trifft.

Maïté is married to Vincent, who has just been sentenced to seven years in jail. Their relationship is based on two weekly encounters in the prison‘s visiting booth, the only place where they can rebuild an intimacy which inevitably differs from the standards of ordinary life. I wanted to write very short and simple scenes, in which silence would often be more meaningful than words. I filmed gestures, postures, glances, smiles, faces that lie to avoid sinking. I wanted these images to be the physical, sensual and emotional traces of an impossible dialogue. For my characters are not intended to be related to psychology or commentary. They go through ordeals and try to make the best of their situation, however difficult it might be. (Jean-Pascal Hattu)
