Can a phone call erase an entire life, a country, your very identity? In Iva Radivojević’s first narrative feature,11-year-old Lana answers the phone one Friday in 1992, and from that moment, her world changes dramatically. The film opens with the line, “This story took place in a country that now exists only in books, films, and memories,” and through the reenactment of that fateful phone call, it weaves a meditation on loss, identity, and displacement. The call that Lana answers brings news of her grandfather’s death, but it also signals the beginning of the end for her country.
