April

Nina is a gynaecologist in the foothills of the Caucasian Mountains. She endures life's hardships with patience and does her job conscientiously. Outside surgery hours, she is a contact point for desperate women and carries out clandestine abortions. When under her supervision a new-born child dies immediately after birth, Nina is accused of malpractice. Suddenly, every aspect of her professional and private life is in the spotlight. Rumours about abortions lead to the start of an investigation against her. For the doctor, everything is at stake. The story of a Georgian gynaecologist is a powerful drama about female independence, underlined by an intense score from sound designer Matthew Herbert. (Filmfest Hamburg)
