A city disappears: as part of the Ilısu Dam project, the millennia-old city of Hasankeyf on the Tigris River is flooded and its inhabitants forcibly resettled in a soulless test-tube city. With fascinating images and a keen sense of the history and mentality of this strongly Kurdish-influenced region, this long-term observation paints an intimate picture of the loss of identity and cultural heritage. Grzegorz Piekarski and Natalia Pietsch spent six years researching and filming in Hasankeyf in Eastern Türkiye, building close relationships with the town's residents. In their quest for an authentic portrayal of resettlement and uprooting, they rely on visual storytelling rather than voice-overs or interviews to draw us into this world.
